Summary/Abstract: Jan Dobrogost Krasiński (1639–1717) was a leader of the nobility of Mazovia already at the start of the reign of John III. In 1668 he was appointed a Referendary of the Crown and the Starost of the Town of Warsaw, which offered him judicial and police authority in Warsaw Territory. As Starost, he was an administrator of the Warsaw Castle. Prior to becoming a Voivode of Płock in 1688, he had served six terms as a deputy to the Sejm from regional assemblies of Mazovia (between 1662 and 1688, he was a deputy to Polish Sejm as many as 23 times, 11 times representing Warsaw Territory). Krasiński was a dignitary that took active role in local life, as a person responsible for the organisation of the assemblies convened in Warsaw (both representing Warsaw Territory and the general assemblies of the entire voivodeship). He often collaborated with the king in the hope of advancing his career as an official and of acquiring more land, which would be a nice addition to his already sizeable estate. He was committed to the defence of the state, maintaining his own military troops and participating in the Vienna campaign of 1683 and in the Moldavian one of 1686. Krasiński was one of the eminent politicians of the region of Mazovia during the reign of John III.
