Summary/Abstract: "City of new people" is a title of socialist realistic novel from early 1950s, which described the development of new communities in postwar Recovered Territories. An author of the novel, Janina Dziarnowska, was a Polish writer, social activist and communist. In the novel, the city of Elbląg (yet unnamed in the plot) was presented as an example of a place where the victorious left wing influences were fighting with the opponents wanting to restore country’s previous political system. Image of the city and its’ settlers was described in the novel with great detail and bluntly. At the same time, it was full of propaganda and one-sided depictionof the social restoration after Second World War.
