Summary/Abstract: Today’s anthropology has been pervaded by two reductionist visions of man. One attempts to reduce man to a merely machine and the human mind to a merely computer. The other focuses on reducing man to an animal. Both reduction approaches have been extensively popularized in the culture and mentality of the post-Christian societies. One of themain contributing factors to both reductions is the evolutionary understanding of the origin of man. A timely response to both reductionisms is the adequate anthropology of John Paul II which draws on the Book of Genesis.
