Summary/Abstract: The aim of presented article is to describe the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on homes for people with disabilities (HPD). We focused on monitoring the pandemic effects on working with clients,on providing services and/or their reduction, and on using online tools in the provision of services. The main instrument for data collection was a questionnaire, the administration of which was preceded by a pilot study, and finally the results were enriched with findings from a focus group. The questionnaire was completed by directors / heads of services from 77 HPD (37 % of all these services in the Czech Republic). The target group of clients of these facilities are predominantly people with intellectual and multiple disabilities. The pandemic significantly reduced the range of services provided (especially contact with the social environment, artistic, therapeutic, leisure, relaxation, and physical activities). It had a significant impact on the mental state of clients, meeting their needs, providing health care, etc. A notable difficulty, when working with clients, was the necessity to explain the situation to clients and teach them how to deal with it, which highlights the importance of possessing special pedagogical competencies of HPD staff (yet there was only 0,2 % of special educators).
