Summary/Abstract: Miguel de Unamuno is, without a doubt, an author that deserves our attention even nowadays. Well-known for his atypical style of writing and his peculiar way of thinking, he always invites his readers to reflect upon topics such as death, love, values, or the meaning of life. Accepting the author's invitation, our purpose is to deliberate on one of the aspects that we think has fallen into oblivion within his philosophy and literary creation, namely the comic sense of life. This idea may be found in his short novel Un pobre hombre rico o el sentimiento cómico de la vida and it suggest a different approach on how to deal with anguish, existence’s contradictions and especially with the issue of personality. In addition, our wish is to demonstrate that, despite not being one of Unamuno’s most representative works, it is equally important, in terms of hermeneutics, to the understanding of the message that is held by the puzzle of his literary creations. Our conclusion aims to extrapolate Unamuno’s message in the shape of a reconciliation of opposites: the tragicomic sense of life.
