Summary/Abstract: In the present paper, we undertake a linguistic analysis of a secular Romanian translation that emerged in the early 18th century. The work in question, Ceasorniculdomnilor, by the erudite Nicolae Costin, is a literary monument that finds its rationale within the specific contextual framework in which it appears, as it reflects certain essential concerns of the time, especially regarding state authority. Furthermore, from a linguistic standpoint, the work mirrors a period in which the Romanian literary language incorporated new paradigms with the aim of its “modernization”. The main aspect we aimed to address is that of the productivity of suffixation in the translation at hand, as well as to analysing the suffixes that have proven to be the most prolific, namely -(ă, â, e, i, u)ciune, -(i)une, -ie, -ărie, -ulie, -(a, â, e, i)re, -(ă, e, i, â, o)tor[-iu],-(ă, e, i)toare and -ură (-ătură, -etură, -itură, -otură, -sură, -tură).
