Summary/Abstract: General Tadeusz Rozwadowski is commonly believed to have played an active part in the Austro-German victory in the battle of Gorlice in May 1915. This view is promoted mainly by his early biographies and authors whose research is largely based on the General’s memoirs. Working chiefly on primary sources, the author of this paper reconstructs Rozwadowski’s postings in the first half of 1915. Numerous complementary documents clearly show that it was other officers who planned and executed the highly successful artillery bombardment of the Russian defences. Present there at that time, Rozwadowski managed to portray the events in his memoir in a most convincing manner.
