Summary/Abstract: The article points to the importance of communication with terminally ill children as well as the importance of communication after the loss of, for example, a sibling or classmate. Death, dying, the loss of a loved one are difficult topics that arouse fear, concern and respect. However, they are an integral part of life, unfortunately also of children’s lives, often already at an early age. It is therefore necessary that the phenomenon of death and dying be communicated in an appropriate way already in childhood, not only with children whose illness significantly limits their life span, but also with their siblings, classmates and parents. Not only the family but also the school plays an important role in such communication. The authors of the paper point to the necessity of training teachers in various types of schools in the field of communication and its specifics in the issue of death and dying. At the same time, they rely mainly on foreign studies, as this issue is still unexplored in Slovakia.
