Summary/Abstract: An undated letter by Polish writer Karol Irzykowski (1873-1944) to Sigmund Freud recentlyemerged at the Library of Congress in Washington. In her editor’s introduction Magnoneidentifies details indicating that it must have been written in 1908. Irzykowski’s mainsubject is his stuttering. Considering to undergo a course of hypnotherapy he contactsFreud, whom he esteems as a specialist in the field, to ask about the effectiveness of suchtreatments. Magnone also outlines the state of speech therapy and psychoanalyticaltheories of stuttering in the early twentieth century.
