The People in Perspective, the Perspective of the People

Summary/Abstract: Chmielewska explores “people’s histories” – works by Adam Leszczyński, MichałRauszer and Kacper Pobłocki – in the context of perspectivism, counter-history,rescue humanities, and, above all, potential histories (which reveal the possibilitiesof different narratives, and, indirectly, of other historical processes), accounts thatanalyse an alternative historical bios. The new type of historiography must tackle thetask of reconstructing the sources and perspectives that are not properly present, itmust recast the narratives of dominant politics, show us a different level of agency andsubjectivity, question the consensus on what ought to be regarded as most importantin national history and what should enter its canon. It is a unique archeology of thedominated and silent subject.
