Summary/Abstract: The article examines representation of bodies entangled with technology and capitalismin feminist cyberpunk novels written in the 1990s and early 2000s. Classic texts of thegenre written by men are characterised by a disdain for the body and a desire to abandonit in favour of immortality in cyberspace. Women writers such as Melissa Scott, MaryRosenblum, Linda Mixon, Lyda Morehouse, Nicola Griffith as well as Nalo Hopkinson,Madeline Ashby, Lauren Beukes, Annalee Newitz, Larissa Lai and Nnedi Okorafor, bycontrast, insist that escaping the body is impossible for women as well as sexual and racialminorities. Their protagonists use technology to create post-humanist subjectivities andcommunities that offer alternatives to the capitalist and patriarchal world.
