Summary/Abstract: Kłosińska-Nachin draws on Polish post-dependence studies to examine Spanish prosewritten after 1975. Both Spanish and Polish identities have been marked by colonialexperience, having dominated others and having been dominated. Michel Foucault’snotion of panopticism is used as a marker of post-dependence, common to both Polishand Spanish prose at the beginning of the transformation. A comparative analysis oftwo novels, Visión del ahogado (Vision of a Drowning Man, 1977) by Juan José Millásand Czytadło (Pulp, 1992) by Tadeusz Konwicki, shows the presence of similar featuresof a panoptic society. In both texts panopticism generates violence, which is one of themanifestations of post-dependence. The experience of violence also becomes a sourceof ambivalent discursive strategies.
