Summary/Abstract: The systematic research of prehistoric graves in the “Prahova area” (southwest of Prahova County) has generated a consistent “package” of information related to the Yamnaya funerary phenomenon. We thus have access to the chronology of these monuments, funeral ritual, grave goods, and bio-social dynamics. Although the “Prahova area” is a relatively small one, the elements found here are representative for this phenomenon in its entire territory of distribution. In 2021, two mounds were researched in the localities of Ariceștii Rahtivani and Targșoru Nou (Prahova County), in which Yamnaya graves were discovered. In the same year, in the locality of Lipia (Buzău County) a flat grave dating from the first half of the third millennium BC was found. Although the characteristics of a burial mound have not been identified, this grave has a number of elements specific to the same funerary phenomenon. The discovery from Lipia enables a discussion regarding flat graves dating from the first half of the third millennium BC found near burial mounds or even in areas where these funerary monuments do not occur. These graves, together with contemporary settlements so far marked by rather discreet presences, outline a complex picture of the first half of the third millennium BC in the south-Carpathian area.
