Summary/Abstract: The objective of the article is showing the role played by Lucjan Malinowski (1839-1898) in the preparation of Słownik staropolski (Dictionary of the Old Polish Language). Using the materials documenting the creation and activity of the Academy of Learning, he shows one of the aspects of activities taken up within the institution. The idea of preparing Słownik staropolski (1953-2002) is connected with professor L. Malinowski. The author of the article shows Malinowski’s contribution to the undertaking in the context of his role played in the history of the Academy of Learning and the University of Kraków.
