Summary/Abstract: The paper analyses a series of textual and paratextual ‘samples’ which are meant to provide empirical evidence to support the intrinsic revelatory character of translation – more specifically, of research on translation. Three types of cases in point are listed, which draw attention to aspects that may be disclosed via translation research (e.g. the relativity and instability of the translated text; the directness or indirectness of translation; the shallowness and occasional deceptiveness of online dictionaries and machine translation).
