Summary/Abstract: In this paper the attention is focused on the educational structure of the labor force and its meaning for the economic development of the Republic of Macedonia. The analysis covers the period 1999-2006, and the data is used from the Labor Force Survey. The research showed that the educational level of the labor force had unfavorable influence on the economic development of the country for several reasons: First, the share of the employees with low level of education is still relatively big (29,1%). Second, a big part of the employees with medium and high level of education are older than 40 years, which implicates outdated knowledge, and consequently smaller contribution to the economic development of the country. Third, the big part and absolute scope of the unemployed persons with low level of education, especially of the young ones (till 29 years of age), which means that they weren't involved in system oh secondary education. Therefore, this segment of the unemployed will be faced with the problem of finding a job and will be long-term social problem of the country. Fourth, in the educational structure of the unemployed dominant participation had persons with medium and high level of education. This means that out of economic activity is a significant part of the labor force, which if can be activated will contribute to acceleration of the economic development of the country. In present conditions the educational structure of the labor force does not have significant influence on the economic development of the country. Therefore, it is necessary for the state to take measures in order to make balance between the supply and the demand on the labor market. This can be achieved by increase of the supply quality and by accelerating the economic development as a necessary term for bigger engagements of the labor force.
