Summary/Abstract: This paper is focused on the challenges and possible directions of the educational system in Republic of Macedonia for derivation of the economic development. They are based on the National Program for Development of Education in 2005-2015, the National Strategy for Employment 2010; the National Action Plan for Employment 2006-2008, as well as on the others identified changes in the education of the population and labor force. Their realization is long-term and complex process. The improvement of the present conditions basically will be determined by the financial possibilities of the state, i.e. the investments in the educational process, and by the implementation of serious and consistent reforms in the educational system of the country. The realization of the identified measures and activities assumes investments of significant resources, which today realistically are lacking. According to the unfavorable economic conditions, very important question is arising: whether Republic of Macedonia is capable and will succeed in fulfillment of the goals that are set, especially if the country doesn’t make serious movements in the development trends. The reforms in the educational system of the country in the last decade were slow and partial; often start from the beginning with every change of the government. The educational process is long-term, which implicates continuity in the implementation of the reforms. Therefore with the presumption that the state has the necessary financial assets, still, inevitable is the need for more serious approach and consistency with the reforms in the educational system. Only with particularity and dedication for realization of the challenges and possible directions of the educational system in Republic of Macedonia, the educational structure of the population and labor force can be improved, the human capital increased, and the economic development of the country intensified.
