Summary/Abstract: Purpose/Thesis: The subject of the study is the structure of the titles of predatory periodicals registered on Jeffrey Beall’s list of Potential, possible, or probable predatory scholarly open-access journals. The aim of the study is to present the structural patterns the titles of predatory periodicals developed by their publishers. The research intends to raise awareness in the scientific community regarding the manipulative tactics used by predatory publishers when titling their journals. This will help to make detecting predatory journals more efficient in the future. Approach/Methods: A literature review of the scholarship on the character of the titles of predatory journals, published between 2009 and 2021, was carried out. The author applied the statistical method to analyse the lexical structure of predatory journals’ titles. Results and conclusions: The performed statistical analysis of the lexical structure of the titles of predatory journals identified intentional selection of words in a specific order. The dominant pattern comprised of geographical name and the core in the first part, and an indicator of quality and multidisciplinarity and the name of the scientific discipline, in the second part. Originality/Value: The lexical structure of the titles of predatory journals has not been discussed in the Polish scientific literature so far. Furthermore, there are no articles examining this issue in the reviewed English-language scientific literature.
