Summary/Abstract: The article explores conceptual metaphors connected with the presentation of the European Union in Czech political discourse. Political discourse is a part of the complex relationship between politicians and society, and it is aimed at shaping political reality. A conceptual metaphor reflects the speaker’s (politician’s) perception of the world and can influence the recipient’s worldview. The analysis of conceptual metaphors used to represent the European Union (the European Union is a house, the European Union is a body, the European Union is a machine) can be used both for understanding the linguistic portrayal of the world and for identifying manipulative speech strategies.
