Summary/Abstract: The return of Dobrogea to Romania in 1878 marked the starting point for the modernization of the land between the Danube and the Black Sea. Constanța had become the most important city in this part of the country, thanks to its political renewal and the increased interest of both national and local authorities. Constanța thus became a metaphorical open gate to the whole world, through its port as well as through ample tourism; the city was home to beautiful hotels, coveted for the opportunity to have fun, relax and recover in equal measure. But undoubtedly the „star” of the city is the Sea. The combination of traditional Orientalism and Europeanism, determined by the openness to the whole world, made Constanța a cosmopolitan city, with particularly meaningful particular features. The development of Constanta can also be seen through the eyes of those who visited it and who left us testimonies in this regard. Some impressions of V. Grozescu, M.D. Ionescu-Dobrogianu, Petru Vulcan et al. for overtime readers are provided in this article.
