Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the use of local biographies in Polish as a foreign language classroom, illustrated through Ludwik Zamenhof’s biography. The need of changing the perspective on the role of the biography’s in teaching Polish is the starting point for the discussion. The article also analyzes the functions of the use of biographies of important people from the perspective of one region and presents contemporary tools and methods which support students in the reading of a biographical text. Highlighted solutions fit into the broader context of didactics of Polish culture, showing the interactive paths in the use of traditional biography.
