Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to present the relationship between canon law and biblical revelation from a wide variety of perspectives. First, it seeks to disprove the false alternative between the church of love and the church of law. Then it focuses on the biblical references contained in the apostolic constitution Sacrae disciplinae leges, by which Pope John Paul II promulgated the current Code of Canon Law. It further examines the use of the biblical principle of not imposing unnecessary burdens in the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches. The canonical norms themselves are also biblically inspired, especially those that contain divine positive law. The canonical regulation of the hierarchical organization of the Church is also interwoven with biblical references. It is above all authorization of apostles by Jesus, namely Peter, to serve the whole community of the Church. On this basis, canon law formulates its norms concerning papal primacy and episcopal collegiality. Individual areas of church life are also to be inspired by biblical message, as the legislation of consecrated life illustrates in particular. The very proclamation of the biblical message is then the subject of the fi rst title of the third book of the Code of Canon Law, called “The Ministry of the Divine Word”.
