Summary/Abstract: Although BiH is not a member state of the European Union, by signing the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA), BiH agreed to take over the EU acquis in line with the provisions of Article 70 of the SAA. One part of the EU acquis has been transposed in laws on consumer protection in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in the Republika Srpska in the area of services of general economic interest. After reviewing the existing legislation governing services of general economic interest at the level of the Republika Srpska and the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, it is evident that consumers are not fully protected in terms of their rights towards public companies, providers of services of economic interest. The issue of services of general economic interest is an important issue for every consumer because we all utilise services like electricity, heating, telecommunications, etc. The way in which services are provided, the rights of consumers in those contracts are always a sensitive issue, and always insufficiently clearly regulated by the current legislation. Overall public and consumers awareness, of the rights and obligations from the contractual rights and duties must be worked on every day, and legislators at all levels of government in BiH should adopt EU legislation in this area as fast and efficiently as possible.
