Summary/Abstract: Adults often cannot find appropriate answers to children´s questions about death, but fictional literature can do that. Death should be explained to children in an appropriate way through the concept of plant, animal, and human death. This paper is focused on options and ways of incorporating mortality awareness education into school communication. We offer principles and rules for conducting a conversation in the teachers´ child-oriented speech, also an overview of children´s books, animated films, activities with the theme of loss and death, samples of interviews with teachers and parents about their opinions on the inclusion of the topic in the school environment from our doctoral research. The topic is still partially taboo, so we think that in this direction teacher education is desirable.
