Summary/Abstract: During the 1960s in Bulgaria a policy of creation of new citizens of the socialist society began – individuals who are aesthetically educated, who appreciate beauty and know the specifics of different arts. In this process, children’s books are especially important, as they introduce readers to literature, poetry and fine arts from an early age. Some of the most famous Bulgarian artists start working in the field of children’s illustration. Their goal is not only to attract the attention of the little ones, but also to instill in them a high artistic taste. The article focuses on the requirements that the images accompanying the texts must meet and on the question of whether there is a mismatch between the ideological goals they should serve and the expectations of children of different age groups.
