Summary/Abstract: In the beginning, the artists of opera work in Bulgaria have searched to recreate most authentically the operas by copying the seen and learned abroad. Around and after the middle of the 20th century, they meant to find “all the conceptual-progressive sentiment and vital human feelings, although slightly hinted they are”. This had to be brought to the fore “to meet people’s societal and cultural needs”. After 1989, the modernization takes a different turn. The biblical character Nabucco wears an army coat and helmet, his soldiers show their guns against those seeking refuge in the temple.
