Summary/Abstract: The author draws attention to the historical and comparative aspects of several international festivals in Bulgaria and Europe pertaining to their concepts, goals, tasks, audience targeting and inclusion of stage productions. The festivals that are commented in the article are: Varna Summer International Festival; Opera and Ballet Festival, Stara Zagora; Scene of the Ages, Veliko Tarnovo; Verdi Opera Nights, Plovdiv; Mozart Holidays, Pravets, etc. In certain aspects, the author draws parallels with major European festivals such as Salzburgerfestspiele, Austria; Edinburgh International Festival; Lucerne Festival; Bayreuth Festival; Seefest-spiele Mörbisch, Austria; Rossini in Pesaro and Puccini in Torre del Lago, Italy.
