Summary/Abstract: Defined later than other Romance languages, the Romanian language was in a position to assert and value its Latin origin in the context in which its formation took place at the intersection of several influences: Romanian, Slavic, Turkish, Greek, etc. The place of Latin cannot be fully established without examining the dynamic relationships between norms, representations, and linguistic ideals. The role of the linguistic imaginary intervenes in this type of research. It acts by combining internal and external factors, objective and subjective, socio-linguistic and political. In this article, we will evoke some reference moments that, in the constitution of the national language and its norms, found in Latin an argument of an identity nature. Certainly, the chosen moments can only be incomplete, but through them we try to reconstruct a dynamic linguistic imaginary, which attests to the subjective relationship of the speakers with their language.
