Summary/Abstract: The aim of this work is to follow the main characteristics and the evolution of the discourse constituted around the median point (le point médian), a sign recently adopted in French to mark the distinction between feminine and masculine forms. We will examine the context of its emergence and we will try to identify its performative force, in the light of semio-pragmatic theories and discourse analysis. Indeed, more than a writing convention, this small typographical sign is endowed with a strong symbolic dimension and makes, in our eyes, the passage between the movement of feminization and inclusive writing.
