Summary/Abstract: The study analyzes the history of the creation and development of a new educational area in Bulgaria between the 1950s and the 1980s, which is research on the East. It examines the topics of its establishment as a scholarly and educational unit, as well as the administrative and political factors for the consolidation of its independent place within Sofia University.
