Summary/Abstract: The author of the unpublished work “The Struggles for Supremacy in the Mediterranean and Bulgaria” Bogdan V. Morfov (1870–1948) was an extraordinary person, an engineer who combined technical expertise with knowledge in the fields of geography, economics, jurisprudence, history, and diplomacy. A long-time head of the Bulgarian State Railways (1807–1920), he later spent eight years in Paris in the capacity of Bulgarian Minister Plenipotentiary. Morfov published several books, among them “Shipping and the Conditions for Its Use” (1936) as well as many specialized articles. The work examined in the article, however, remained unpublished. The manuscript, consisting of parts of 30–40 pages each, covers the centuries from the formation in ancient times of the centres of civilization in the Mediterranean to the period after the First World War. In it the author discusses the political events and processes in the regions around the Mediterranean Sea with extrapolation in later periods to the Bulgarian lands and steadfastly defends the idea of Bulgaria’s belonging to the Mediterranean area.
