Are Archives, Libraries and Museums Heritage and/or Information Institutions? (The Example of the Selected Heritage Institutions of Sarajevo)

Summary/Abstract: Encouraged by the desire to gain insight into the field of digital information services when it comes to local heritage institutions, this paper is realized as an interest for digital information services in practice. An interest for the realization of heritage institutions digital information services in Bosnia and Herzegovina came as a response to a series of incentives. One of the most important incentives certainly is the obvious discrepancy between the general importance of digital information services as an area of interest, on one side, and the interest for this area at the scientific and professional level, as well as at the level of actual heritage practices, on the other side. Digital information services, as an essential component of successful heritage activity, in current environment are often pressed back in favor of involvement in improving library/heritage tools for organizing knowledge and new, digital manifestations of heritage collections. Obviously giving approval for the efforts of this type, this paper, among other things, is an attempt of actualizing important topics related to digital information services area. Also it is a way to draw attention to neglected aspects of serving information in Bosnian and Herzegovinian heritage institutions. Thus, this paper is interested in various aspects of digital information services performance in order to help heritage institutions intending to provide digital information services for its users.
