Rescue archaeological excavation at Arad-Parcul Copiilor, Arad County

Summary/Abstract: The construction of a playground in the park near the Arad Museum led to the discovery of archaeological finds. Rescue archaeological excavations carried out during 2008 led to the identification of a Bronze Age cultural layer. The study of the pottery found in this layer led to the conclusion that the fragments in question were decorated in the manner of the Gáva style, – i.e. the Late Bronze Age. Over the years, in the central area of Arad, numerous finds have been discovered, which indicate the existence of an important Gáva settlement. In addition to the finds mentioned above, four burials were uncovered, without funerary inventory, oriented west-east. These most probably belong to the modern period.
