Summary/Abstract: Public hospitals are a critical component of the Polish health care system. In their operations they are exposed to a number of risks or hazards, whether involving their assets or the very activity they are en- gaged in. Should it materialise, the risk of fortuitous loss might jeopardise both the affected entity and its personnel, patients and the general public. Given what they do, public hospitals would likely find it very difficult to come up with their own funds to deal with the aftermath of any such loss. The main purpose of this article is to determine the types of insurance public hospitals are interested in. Additional objec- tives are to determine whether hospitals use the support of brokerage firms when purchasing insurance services, for what period insurance contracts are concluded and what criteria they use when choosing an insurance company. Achieving the set goals will allow to bring closer the specificity of purchasing insurance services by public hospitals. For its data, the article relied on information about insurance tenders in 2016–2021. Methods of descriptive statistics were used for analyses.
