Summary/Abstract: Aleksandar Vučo is a founder of modern children’s poetry. His opus for children was mostly written in the 1930’s when he published in sequels the poems Dream and reality of brave Koča (1930), Mad Bicycle (1930) and Adventures of the Gang “Five roosters” (1931) in the magazine Politika za decu. It is not widely known that Aleksandar Vučo was a founder of the genre poems for children in Serbian literature, which started to develop and grow after his lyrical and epic works. The aim of the paper is to emphasize the establishment of poem as a genre of children’s literature and use the example of the Mad Bicycle to illustrate genre features and multi-forms of the periodical form of poem. The choice of this work is connected with its marginal position in Vučo’s works for children (which are usually not written about), as well as with the marginalization aided by the publishing and editorial policies (as it turns out, this poem was never printed as a separate edition after it was published in periodicals). For that reason the paper simultaneously intends to shed light on the literary historical development of the poem in Serbian children’s literature by making Vučo’s opus, which was not given enough attention, current again.
