Anglicisms – motivators in verbal derivation in the contemporary Bosnian language

Summary/Abstract: Every language is enriched through adoption of foreign lexis, including anglicisms, motivators for derivation of new words in the Bosnian language, especially verbs. Suffixes by which such verbs are derived are: -ira-, -ova-, -a-, and -isa-, while suffixes -i and -nu have been recorded in the jargon, where verbs are frequently derived directly from an English word.Verbs derived from anglicisms are no different from other verbs in the Bosnian language regarding the general derivational tendencies, but examples have been recorded in the jargon, where they are directly derived from an English word, thus making these verbs marked. Furthermore, prefixation of biaspectual verbs derived from anglicisms where unnecessary contributes to the recognition of the colloquial style in which they occur, while the number of suffixes added to the same root, as well as the development of figurative meaning of some verbs derived from anglicisms, indicates their widespread usage, and, consequently, the necessary increase of frequency of these verbs in lexicographical sources of the contemporary Bosnian language, especially keeping in mind the evolutionary principle of the standard language, as well as their stylistic and emotional-expressive potential for an average speaker of the Bosnian language.
