Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the liturgical Church Slavonic language in the environment of Slovak Greek Catholics under the Carpathians. The linguistic identity of Slovak believers is fully and naturally manifested in liturgical Church Slavonic, especially in the celebration of liturgical ceremonies and in prayers. Besides that, the study provides a description and characteristics of selected linguistic and cultural conditions that enabled the functioning of the liturgical Church Slavonic language among Slovaks. These conditions are explained in the study in the context of the Cyril and Methodius tradition and taking into account the active participation of Slovaks in the Wallachian colonization. Using selected examples from the range of linguistic and cultural realities, the article emphasizes that the Slavic liturgical language and religiosity of the Byzantine Church spread again in the Slovak environment under the Carpathians through Wallachian colonization. A special share in the development of Byzantine-Slavic religious culture is also played by written monuments, which document the fusion of a part of the Slovak ethnic group under the Carpathians with the Byzantine-Slavic religious context. At the same time, the role of Slovaks in shaping the local form of the liturgical Church Slavonic language and Cyrillic written culture is pointed out.
