Summary/Abstract: “Water and salt are fundamental elements of vital importance for man, which is why salt has been considered a precious, indispensable good, also called “white gold”. In order to stay alive each human needs approximately 8 kg of salt a year1, a situation which is the same for every living creature, animal or plant. Salt ensures the organism’s water balance (this explains why people travelling through the desert or polar areas hold a piece of salt in their mouths) and contributes to the maintaining of the muscular tonus. In the beginning man used salt from salty water-seas and springs –a system called briquetting. This system was used in our area near the Slatina Mare spring (as the archaeological diggings from the Criş2 culture prove3)”[…]
