Summary/Abstract: The present study aims to bring light to an extraordinary project of Constitution, drafted during the reign of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, project that had it been applied, would have completed the legislative work of the ruler. The authors of this study propose an analysis of the project considering three main aspects: the context in which it was developed, the analysis of the political institutions and the analysis of the enshrined fundamental rights. The context analysis will regard the historical and political situation of the new Romanian politics of the first decade of the second half of XIXth century. Regarding the situation of the political institutions, there will be noticed the original elements taken from old customary Romanian law, which were not kept in the First Fundamental Law of the Modern Romanian State in 1866. The analysis of Fundamental Rights will comprise a comparison between the rights conferred in the project and the ones in the Constitution of 1866.
