Summary/Abstract: The very title of Kirchhoff ’s novella already suggests a literary enactment of Waldenfels’ reflections on responsivity. The main goal of this paper is an interpretation of the text on the level of the narrative. This attempt gains relevance within literary studies due to the broad applicability of the ›counter-happening‹-matrix – from various levels of communication about genre typology to the unrepeatable nature of the literary. The analysis follows the three-step theory of counter-happening, affection, and response in order to reveal not only the complexity of the said phenomena, but also further dilemmas of assigning and evaluating all three elements of responsivity.
