Summary/Abstract: World War I included all the Great Powers united in two military coalitions. On one side is the Entente, which includes Britain, France, Russia, Italy and other countries, and on the other side are the Central Powers, which includes Germany, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire and Bulgaria. The war lasted from 1914 to 1918. More than 70 million soldiers were mobilized to take part in it, and 17 million of them died on the battlefield. Bulgaria also joined the war, striving to regain the territories taken away after the Inter-Allied War of 1913. Despite the heroism of the Bulgarian army, Bulgaria was defeated and suffered its Second National Catastrophe.
