About the Relations in the Reception of the Translations of “Elective Affinities” by Goethe

Summary/Abstract: The following pages thematize the importance of reception in literature, and for guidance in this endeavor I refer to the book “The Boot in Bulgarian Literary Fashion” by Assoc. Prof. Daria Karapetkova. My work is also based on Vladimir Trendafilov’s theories of reference reception and its significance, as I compare the receptions of the two Bulgarian translations of Goethe’s work „Die Wahlverwandschaften“. Almost twenty years separate the two translations, a fact that sets the stage for a more thorough analysis and provides a greater opportunity for comparison, given the motives of the translators and the time of creation of the work and translations.
