Short Description
The series "A way to straight-A" is a publication of the Master's degree programme "Translator-Editor" at the Faculty of Slavic Studies of Sofia University. It is published once a year in December. The publication includes original texts by young researchers, mainly focused on the problems of translation theory and criticism, as well as translation reception. The subject of these texts is translation issues concerning languages such as English, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Japanese, etc. Some of the texts concentrate on the reception of one book or one author, but others trace the overall reception of literatures such as Japanese or Korean in Bulgaria. Special attention is also paid to the reception of children's literature in translation.
In terms of texts that concern the criticism of translation, translated versions are compared, the difficulties faced by translators from different languages are commented on, and the peculiarities of specialised or film translation are analysed.
All these texts can serve as a guide in teaching translation.
A special section of the volume also includes reviews of important books in the field of contemporary Bulgarian literature, which can serve both as models for the ways in which good reviews are written and as examples in considering the tastes of young critics.
Finally, „A way to straight-A“ also presents translated texts from the fields of philosophy, literary studies and fiction, with the aim of introducing names that are unfamiliar or little known to the Bulgarian public.
