Summary/Abstract: The report’s historical overview covers an approximately 15 years-long period of emergence and dynamic development of cryptocurrencies and their application as a payment method for the purchase of various goods and services. Chronologically, a list of active and inactive currencies is presented here. The development and spread of blockchain-based currencies goes beyond the boundaries of our actual physical reality and this relates to the new challenges and problems associated with them – technological, political, legal, accountability and tax regulation. In the perspective of the year 2030 the size of the cryptocurrency market and the key segmentation factors are presented: by supply (hardware and software), by process (mining and transaction), by type, by end users, by region. The forecast for the future main companies on the market of this currency is also presented.
