Summary/Abstract: The article presents the perspectives on camp which have emerged during the last forty years: from Esther Newton’s pioneering study, through the Notes on Camp by Susan Sontag, Andrew Ross’ analysis of camp in the context of mass culture and the economy of late capitalism, to the methodological boom of the 1990s. – a period of heated discussion on camp. Multiplicity of these concepts can be reduced to two main theories, equipped with sociological and anthropological justifications – minority camp and queer camp. Minority camp dissolves relations within heterosexual system in a parodist way, while the sexual binarism and its system of representation are considered unsurpassable point of arrival; the queer camp wants to exceed the system of gender identities, considering the heterosexual matrix as a point of departure.
