Summary/Abstract: In the literary work of Jerzy Zawieyski one can find an expression of his intimate problems related to the hidden homosexuality. This can be seen especially in his play from 1947 entitled A Song of Hope. Emotional turmoil of the author (considered one of the leading representatives of the catholic literature of that period) inscribed in this work have remained a secret since now. In the process of their reconstruction the key role was played by the juxtaposition of biographic sources with literary practice and the author’s programmatic statements. Only from this perspective one can realize that the Old Testament motive of King David’ affair, employed in the play, should not be treated merely as a literary version of the philosophical and religious discourse, but also as the record of Zawieyski’s personal experience, hidden in the ambiguous biblical universe.
