Summary/Abstract: A high-quality and sophisticated corporate payroll system constitutes one of the prerequisites of remuneration necessary for the effective application of the principle of equal treatment. By evaluating both past experience and results and the positive and negative aspects of company regulations, it can be concluded that, in particular, the brief wording used is not able to accurately reflect the material intention of remuneration and so exclude differing interpretations, thus often enabling de facto non-compliance with the relevant provisions. The in-house pay system effectively functions as a tool for motivation and wage differentiation and minimises the risk of unequal pay provided it is well thought out, comprehensible for employees and contains objective employee assessment criteria.
