Increase in the minimum wage from 1 January 2018

Summary/Abstract: On 1 January 2018, Government Decree No. 286/2017 Coll., amending Government Decree No. 567/2006 Coll., on the minimum wage, the lowest level of the guaranteed wage, the determination of difficult working environments and the amount of the wage supplement for working in difficult working environments, as amended, will come into force. The aim of the amendment to the Government Decree is to increase the level of the basic rate of the minimum wage, including the lowest level of the guaranteed salary. The principal is that the minimum wage should be at such a level that is sufficiently motivating and should provide for at least basic living needs without the need for dependence on income in the form of additional social benefits aimed at protecting against distress in material need.
