Reflections on the future direction of the European social system

Summary/Abstract: The article provides a critical reflection on the socio-political passages of the „A Union which sets itself higher aims: my agenda for Europe“ programme, with which Ursula von der Leyen successfully applied for the position of President of the European Commission. While, according to the author, the significance of most of the apparently appealing ideas contained in the programme cannot be questioned, the fact that many of these proposals were adopted from previous resolutions without mentioning why they are being fulfilled only very slowly and sporadically, suggests merely the continuity of the approach of European Commissioners rather than the realistic nature of their intentions.
