Summary/Abstract: The article explores the several meanings of the concept of ”intercultural education” while trying to demonstrate the fact that there is no proper definition for the above-mentioned concept. The working definitions are usually vague and imprecise, contradicting the necessary requirements for a definition. This syndrome is visible in the scientific literature specific to the European Union jargon and, from this, it has extended to specific national scientific literature. We will analyze the way in which intercultural education is understood in the documents of the Council of Europe and, consecutively, we will provide an example of how this notion is understood in the Romanian pedagogical literature.
